Same Sex Marriage in the NFL

In a Mother Jones article found here, the topic of discrimination of gay players in the NFL is discussed. Though the discussion is all about discrimination and the policies that are (or are not) in place to fight gay discrimination, it can be used to see how these policies allow the gay marriage of a player, but how they may not be able to keep that marriage from the judging eyes of fans, players and executives.

Though the NFL and some states have laws and policies against gay discrimination, there is always a possibility of still happening. For instance, Michael Sam, a University of Missouri All-American defensive end came out on the 9th of February, putting his potential career at risk. And with this risk of not being drafted or hired to play; discrimination that could be disguised. But unlike Michael Sam, other potential players who may be gay may choose not to announce their orientation, and therefore forbidding to marry. Though these anti discrimination policies are in the right direction, can more be done? In all, one must note that laws that do not directly pertain to marriage affect marriage consequently.
