Consussions in the NFL

http://espn.go.com/espn/commentary/story/_/page/munson-120302/dave-duerson-concussion-lawsuit-put-nfl-defensive

It is reported by a study in the New York Times that some 60% of all football players will have at least one concussion, while 26% obtain three or more, in their career. Concussions are scary things I have had one myself, and I know I personally would not want to go play a contact sport right after or the next day. The late Dave Duerson a former candidate for office asked that his brain be studied for football related injuries. The study showed that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which is damage to the tissue from concussions. They are linking this evidence to the “mood swings and loss of impulse control that derive from damage to the brain.” In the final years of his life. His four children are suing the NFL for wrongful death, which is one of 659 similar cases.
I find this evidence needs to be further studied and brought to the light if there is indeed a link between concussions in football and how one can live out his life after the game is over. My brother being a former College football player for Washington State is proof enough to me. He was not even getting paid to play and is now Cripple with multiple blood clots and several concussions later. Sure the sport is entertaining to watch and we love the impacts, but at the end of the day coaches need to not look at dollar signs and stop putting injured players back in the game. We need to create more law suites and more pressure to make sure we can enjoy fun sports that are good for the body and mind.

The other day they were talking about how teams are under investigation for wagering money to players that injure the other team. The more hurt or bigger injury inflicked on the opponent the bigger the cash prize. The Saints are the main team in the spotlight but it happens more often and on more teams then the public is aware of until the issue being brought into public light. Here's an article on it you might like. http://www.upi.com/Sports_News/2012/03/02/NFL-Saints-paid-to-injure-opponents/UPI-32451330740421/

This is pretty disturbing news, 60%?! that's insane!! There are things in life that are more enjoyable and more relevant that can create the same revenue but with less risk of brain damage. On another not, I still think it's stupid how much they make regardless.
