Mentor

I would say that I have had a couple of mentors in my life so far. My mentors have not really been career orientated but more to do with the sports that I have competed in. The biggest impact that some one has had on my life was my softball coach from the age of 15-18. He had played in the world games as a men's softball player, coached the Olympics and is now a coach at ASU. He was also ADA in Sacramento for quite some time. He helped me not only on the field but off and finding direction in my life and what I wanted to do. For the longest time I just wanted to play on the softball team that he coached. Since there were not try outs for his team. It was by only invitation only it was not that easy. I was introduced to him by a friend of mine who played for him. After playing against his team in a couple of tournaments I happened to get asked on his team. I spent countless hours practicing and working with a team and on my own. Soon after I was on the team I was captain of our team until I was too old to play. I had to constantly improve and be at the top of my game. I was very focused and driven. At the time this was one of the best teams in California to play for. If you were not serious about wanting to compete against the best in the nation you would be kicked off of our team. As badly as I wanted to do well and succeed in softball he also wanted me to. I had to show I was willing to dedicate everything I had to the sport for a long time. I gave up a lot of normal high school activities to play on his team and I would gladly do it all again. Like anything weather it be sports or career I want to always be associated with winners, successful people, people that are the best in the industry whatever it is. I think you find the best and then go after it. If they see how dedicated you are they will be willing to help you. But in the end its up to you and how bad you want to make whatever you want happen. No one will hold your hand or give you anything if you want it make it happen.

I love the dedication that you have in the softball mentor relationship. That dedication is what keeps a mentor around; showing them that you are worth their time and effort.
