N.F.L. Gives $1 Million To Brain Researchers

The NFL extended a 1 million dollar offer to the Boston University School of Medicine's Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy. The School has decided that the donation is exactly what they need and there are no strings attached. The money will be put towards research on how long term football careers cause brain diseases. Doctors say the gift demonstrates the N.F.L's concern for their player's safety. The project seems to be leading to great medical advancements and will promote the safety of athletes.

Hahaha I bet they're right. I think getting hit on the head, smacked to the ground, and trampled over for years on end would have an impact on brain malfunctions. I don't think that it is a great way to spend $1 Million. They should spend that money on more padding instead.

This is a good study, especially when football players are wearing helmets. But it is obvious what continued blows to the head does to boxers without a study:)Maybe they could have put the money to some other study:)

That is cool that they did that. Getting tackled everyday by 300 pound linebackers cant be good for your head either. I know boxers have a really high chance of messing their heads up.

I think that everyone is forgetting that the NFL is a multi-billion dollar enterprise... Their athletes are some of the most highly paid sports stars in the business. Some of these players like Peyton Manning from the Indianapolis Colts have their hands insured for up to 200,000. Whatever the NFL can learn about protecting its investments will be well worth the 1 million they spent on research.

I like how the NFL is giving money to scientists to find cures for cancer and brain diseases. I beleive that instead of the NFL giving millions to the gov't or paying taxes that they Gould fund the cancer organization and pay doctors to try to find cures for deadly diseases. Great blog
